TR19 Kitchen Extract Cleaning in Leeds
The whole extract system — canopy, ductwork and fan — cleaned to the TR19 Grease standard, with grease readings and a certificate for your insurer.

TR19 Grease is the specification published by BESA, the building engineering services association, for managing the fire risk from grease in kitchen extract systems. It sets how often a system should be cleaned, how clean is clean enough, and what records the provider should hand over. Insurers and fire risk assessors across West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire measure kitchens against it.
We arrange TR19 extract cleaning quotes across Leeds and the surrounding districts. The clean is carried out by an independent specialist provider, who takes the readings and issues the certificate.
The full route, not just the hood
A TR19 clean follows the grease the whole way: canopy and filters, the plenum, every horizontal and vertical run of ductwork, the extract fan and its housing, and the discharge point outside. Where there is no way into a section of duct, access panels are fitted — TR19 Grease suggests panels roughly every two to three metres where the layout allows.
How clean is clean enough
TR19 Grease sets a limit of a mean 200 microns of grease across the system between cleans, with anything at 500 microns or more needing an immediate spot clean. The provider measures deposits before and after with a wet film thickness test, so the certificate shows the system was brought back within limits rather than simply stating it was cleaned.
What you receive
A post-clean report with before-and-after photographs from matching positions, the grease readings, notes on any parts of the system that could not be reached, and a certificate with the date and the recommended next clean. That is the evidence your insurer, your fire risk assessor and the council's food safety officer will ask for. Read more in our TR19 compliance guide for Leeds kitchens.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is TR19 a legal requirement?
TR19 itself is guidance, but the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to manage fire risk, and kitchen extract should be in your fire risk assessment. In practice, insurers and assessors treat TR19 Grease as the standard to meet.
Who issues the TR19 certificate?
The specialist provider who carries out the clean issues the certificate, with the grease readings and photographs.
How long does a full TR19 clean take?
A single-canopy kitchen with a short duct run is often done in a few hours. Larger or multi-storey systems can take a full night or more. The provider will tell you before you book.
